The CMA Foundation Course is the entry-level stage of the Cost and Management Accountant qualification conducted by the Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICMAI).
It builds a strong foundation in commerce, accounting, mathematics, economics, and business laws. This stage prepares students for advanced professional studies in cost and management accounting.

Foundation level – 4 papers:
Paper 1: Fundamentals of Business Laws & Business Communication (Indian Contract Act, Sale of Goods, Partnership, Company Law, business communication).
Paper 2: Fundamentals of Financial & Cost Accounting (principles, journal, ledger, trial balance, financial statements, depreciation, inventory, cost concepts).
Paper 3: Fundamentals of Business Mathematics & Statistics (ratio, interest, permutations, probability, statistical measures, data interpretation).
Paper 4: Fundamentals of Business Economics & Management (micro & macro economics, demand & supply, market structures, national income, management principles, OB).
Exam Pattern (2025): Offline (pen & paper) | June & December | 100 marks per paper | Objective + Descriptive | Pass: 40% per paper & 50% aggregate. Tests conceptual clarity and basic application.

After clearing Foundation, students move to Intermediate level. Foundation alone does not provide full professional qualification but builds the base for: Accounting roles, Finance executive roles (entry-level), Internship opportunities.
